What's the black and blue star?

Getting more popular. First saw it on an ex-con Peckerwood years ago, right next to his lightning bolts, so I assumed at the time it was a prison thing or maybe even white awareness related but I've seen it recently on young jewish females. Some pretty generic meaning? Anybody know where it started?

The five pointed version represents Polaris, the North Star. Once spotted, anyone trying to navigate could figure out what direction to travel in. Sailors get this tattoo to help them get home safely. The four pointed version, as seen on a map, represents the four directions: north, south, east, and west. The 8 pointed version is used on maps and represents a compass with the four directions, as well as their cooresponding diagonals. or so some website stated. My guess is, whatever the hell you want it to stand for. YOu can get one and tell the world it meant you read 5 Dr. Seuess books to 10 second graders in 25 minutes, and who could argue? It's your body your tattoo , your meaning. Granted it seems alot of people say it means your gay or lesbian , or mormon , or pagan, or a sailor, or a punk rocker , or this or that. But it's a common enough symbol now , not too mention one of the oldest in the history of man, that you can get one for whatever purpose you desire and give it whatever meaning you'd like. It's not a swastika by any means so I wouldn't worry about too many people becoming offended by the white pride thing you mentioned.
