I'm searching for a tattoo that isn't outlined in black at all...more like a watercolor, airbrushed piece of art... is that possible, and what's it called so I don'nt end up sounding like an ass when I'm inquiring if an artist knows how to do it?
Thanks for any and ALL information!

And I dont know if you can call it anything else that it is in the art world. If theres a art style that you are thinking, just show the artist those art pieces and ask about if they can be tattooed or can something similar be done:)
i was going to say the same thing but i wouldn't call her work watercolors, more like pastels i guess? anyway she's great. i'm hoping to get a 3/5 sleeve (up to 2 inches past elbow) by her this summer. still haven't inquired as to wait and cost but oh well.
hey, my backpiece was just finished a couple weeks ago....the only black on my back are the 2 old tribals that were reworked...but the rest is black-free....found the artist here on tattoonow, he had posted a cherry blossom tattoo with no black lining and i loved it....so i made a similar request....makes for a very soft look

The Detroit Tattoo Convention is this weekend, with plenty of world class artists that can do exactly what you are looking for (and then some!). I'll be at the Off the Map Tattoo booth... stop on by and say hi!
