Ok, here's the story: had a daughter at 19. Have TONS of stretch marks, now faded to my skin tone, nearly impossible to see, about same texture as skin.
I spent the past two years trying to HIDE my stretch marks. Now, after much introspection and the help of a friend's site (www.shapeofamother.blogspot.com), I have come to love my stretchmarks, and want to ACCENTUATE them.
I don't want to "fill in" or "color" my stretchmarks, but rather outline them, tattooing on the unscarred skin surrounding them.
I have 4 other tattoos, and of all of them (which I love, immensely), none have felt this "right". It feels right down to my bones, and I feel it's something I need to do.
Any suggestions regarding?
Tattooing AROUND stretch marks

sounds like it's a very meaningful thing to do, and congrats on your child :) are you thinking of simply outlining them, or making a picture out of it?
Basically, I just want them outlined. The ones closest to my navel are so close together, I'll just be filling in the spaces between the marks, and then decreasing line size as I move outward toward my hips.
I tried it out with some gel pens to see how the design would look; it will end up looking like a stylized line-drawing of a Sun...
Wow -- I wish I loved my stretchmarks that much -- (mine are just from growing too fast [vertically, not horizontally... ]... lol)
The first thing that came to mind when I saw the topic was using them as unique "backbones" to creatures (millipedes?!?!) or stems to vines/flowers -- but I think the idea you have is great
Oooh I like the stem to flowers idea... my stretchmarks end about an inch above my belly button, and they're generally patterned in a round shape... so maybe if I throw some green in there, and have them made vine-style up to the top of my stomach and do some pretty, almost lacy looking flowers... oooh I love it! Thanks for that suggestion!
