Ta moko New Zealand Tattoo

1 message · last activity 5/14/2007

I'm from Northern Ireland, and my family are emigrating to NZ (my Mum, Dad, two younger sisters and gran, leaving me with my Grandad that I'm not very close to and an Uncle I almost never talk to). I'll miss them like nothing else and I don't really know how I'm gonna cope, but I think I'm too old to abandon my life and friends here. I'm gonna go and see them for Christmas, and want to get a Ta moko (sorry if this is an incorrest use of the term) as a synbol of how much I miss them/ they are a part of me etc. Anyway I don't want a fake. I want a genuine tattoo in the traditional way. So... 1/ Is this a viable plan? I have read that only Maori can get Ta moko and they see it as great disrespect and wannabeism if you're not. 2/ Are there Maori about to do this for me? p.s I don't have any existing tattoos
