Has anyone ever used a mag or flat shader like a calligraphy pen to fill script, or does everyone always just use the normal fill/shade methods to fill in letters?

I know there are techniques you can use to create different effects when filling script, ie brush strokes. But I have never heard or seen some of use mags in the same manner of a caligraphy pen. Two different animals as far as techniques go....IMO.
