Opinions: Random or Full Body?

Here's my disclaimer - Yeah hope you weren't expecting a real disclaimer. This is just the opinion of some 19 year old kid, so don't get all anal bent if you don't like what I think! (in other words, lets have a conversation, not an argument, and just make it fun!). Anyways, so my question first, and then what I think. Do you prefer to have multiple random tattoos, or would you rather go with a repeating sequence, something that not literally ties together, but matches your other tattoos? Me, personally...when I'm wearing the multiple tats that I plan to be wearing, I would definitely like them all to correspond with one another. I want my moon to match my sun, and so on. So I guess you could say I would prefer to go with a single theme. I just feel that if I were to do it that way, the end result would be that it would all come together as a bunch of small pieces of art, to create one large masterpiece. I'm not saying that this is the way it should be, just what I think looks better. Oh, and I'm already assuming that the theme and pieces chosen to go on the person have some meaning attached to them! So, like I said before, what do /you/ guys think?

I think the biggest thing is that tattoos look best in my opinion when they have a certian flow to them, ie, when then flow into each other well. I don't tend to like separate, patchy looking tattoos all that much. Just seems like somebody slapped some stickers on ya.

Personally I like the look of tattoos that flow with the contours of the person's body and seem to add to it. I prefer the look of people who are more covered than the random placement. Unless the tattoo is done well I think it can look like a sticker. Like anything I think it's personal preference. I really like the Japanese body suits...there are different things within the same piece of art but everything goes together and seems to really add to the person's body. Dana

All tattoos should flow with the body, that's one of the things that separate a good tattoo from a great one. Also, I think it depends on the style you like best. For example, if you're into old school "piece" work, or jail style then the individual pieces can really look cool when all wrapped up. However if you want to do a new-school"esque" themed style, lager pieces are the way to go. Just my .02.

I think there should be a certain cohesiveness and planning to tattoos... For my body, I keep certain areas black and grey, others coloured vividly, and always keep a symmetrical amount of tattoos on each side of my body... but I'm not tattooing everything. We've all seen people with "mismatched" tattoos... some with very simple ones besides very detailed ones, very different styles with no attempt to unify the design.. and IMHO that means the individual hasn't thought out their design, or their artist did a poor job of making things flow.

As for me, though i sometimes regret that i'm probly past being able to get a nice megalithic piece done, i like the fact that i look a bit like somebody's travelling suitcase. Hodgepodgeny appeals to me... i like great blurs of unrelated whatevers. I feel a little like an art gallery... a highly eclectic art gallery, where great masters hang beside kindergarten scribbles. I also can string out my tattoo experience this way. For me, a large part of the tattoo is the getting of it; i feel an unique bond with everyone who has inked me (which i why i won't again get inked by someone i don't like)... and that is a major part of it to me. Still, i have a mind to get one or two really big ones in the space left, because i really love the look of a whole-body one-piece as well!

Multiple tattoos of different subject matter can look great together. Personally, i like to get tattooed by a ton of different people with pretty much whatever they think is going to fit right with the space i give 'em to work with. i.e. I'm starting a half sleeve of nuthin but old school Sailor Jerry type stuff, pretty damn random. The only stuff i think looks a little over crowded and ridiculous is when people have a bunch of different tattoos with no similar subject matter, and they want to somehow tie it all together... Case in point, the guy that comes into the shop with a bull dog, kanji, tribal, and an eagle with a rebel flag wrapped around it all on on his forearm and he wants them all to be connected in one big tattoo... What the HELL?!?!

ok all i know that eventually these fuckin people come into the shop. everyday it seems like. with these little garbage flash peices stuck randomly all over there body. and for some reason its my job to make everyone of these pieces work into another. and alot of times these people are full of good ideas for work. but they made so many bad placement or just overall tattoo choices in the past shit cant work. it seems like 90% of the people who get these random tattoos do turn around and want flow. Thats why youre supposed to THINK before you get tattooed not jump on some lame cheap flash.
