matching meaningful tattoos

My mom and I wanted to get a matching tattoo when I turn 18. My birthday is coming quickly and we still haven't decided what we want to get. I dont believe in getting a tattoo that doesn't mean anything to me, so we are trying to think of something that could relate to both of us. My grandparents (my mothers parents) died about two years ago and we decided that we would both like to get something that reminds us of them. My granmother died of heart disease, and my grandfather of cancer. We cant think of anything that relates to the both of them, besides words and my mom doesn't want to put any words on herself. Does anyone have any suggestions for us?

I hate that everyone, even people who know nothing of tattoos, now thinks that there has to be some deep meaning behind a tattoo in order to get it. Corny ass shows have made people think this. If it means something, then awesome, but it doesn't have to. Most of my tats mean something to me(some acquired meaning after I got them), but some I got because I just wanted to. As far as what to get, go see w/e artist it is you have chosen to do your tat and come up with some ideas with him/her right there so they can draw it up in front of you. Don't ask a public forum for a tattoo you should get to mean something to you. You are the one that should come up with it if it's gonna mean anything. Come up with a basic idea at the least. Thanks for your opinion but i was just asking to see if anyone knew any kind of symbol that could represent their memory. I guess its cool that you put permanent ink on your body without it meaning anything but im not like that. A little respect for me feeling that way would be nice, Im sure others agree. My mom and I want some kind of symbol that has to do with strength and love. We want it to be something that will remind us of them forever...any ideas?

i think that is a really sweet gesture... on one hand i think your tattoos should mean something to you, even if its just that you think they are pretty and it compliments who you are.. on the other hand i've heard from alot of friends that get something that you like to look at, it should be art above anything else, so that is something to think about when looking for a design. maybe you could look into getting something that represents their religion or heritage.. or something symbolic of a pet name they had for you or something.. there are alot of options if you think hard enough
