Is it Legal to....

Is it legal for a 15 year old to get a tattoo in Oregon with your parents' consent? I ask because I am getting one this summer, and I heard that you cannot get one in Oregon because there is an age limit regardless of parents' consent. Any thoughts regarding to this, please post.

I am very aware of what everyone says about waiting. BUT my entire family is getting one over the death of our Uncle due to AIDS. What I want is a plain and simple Yin-Yang sign, Black and White, About the size of a quarter on my right shoulder, and i want to know if it's legal in Oregon.

First, I am sorry about the loss of your Uncle. I am sure that you and your family were very close to him, especially if your entire family is getting a tattoo because of it. All of us that read or post to this site have experienced losses in our lives and having something permenant on our bodies in memory of can be a beautiful way of expressing our love for them. We would only encourage you to wait, not because we doubt your love of your Uncle, but because in time you may com across something more beautiful, or meaningful to you to represent it. I think your Uncle would be impressed if you show that level of maturity at your age. Don't get me wrong and take that as disrespect to you. We could and have debated this for what seems forever. Ultimately, the decision is yours to make. We can only offer what we believe to be the best advice. Take care.....J

I agree with J-Werk. It sounds like you guys really love your uncle. I'd wait a little while and do something really beautiful and original that will really honor his memory. A quarter sized yin yang symbol seems like a really temporary memorial to a really permanent love. No disrespect at all, but with a little time and effort, just think of the beautiful tribute you could be honoring him with!

Just go along with your other family members and ask the shop owner while you are there. They will promptly tell you one way or the other if it is legal .
