HIV Positive person wants a tattoo

4 messages · last activity 12/12/2006

My best friend recently found out he is HIV Positive, though the virus is being handled well enough by the meds to be considered in "remission". The HIV, however, has caused terminal cancer. He and I would like to get tattoos in order to commemorate our friendship, but we're having a hard time finding a tattoo artist who will perform the tattoo. Which is totally understandable, we're not upset at all, we'd just like to find an artist who would be willing to perform such a tattoo. Would anyone happen to know how to track down this information? Basic internet searches aren't turning up anything. Thanks for your help!
Cottage bunny. you will need to do some homework and start contacting shops, I can see no other way around it. I'm sure you will find a competent artist to help you out. Good luck, my prayers are with you both! By the way BE PICKY!
thats very decent of your friend to be honest. What are you guys looking to do? maybe a trip to nj would be feasable for you two. If i feel its in a style that someone in my shop or myself would do well, and you wanna take the trip. Im glad to know in advance, but i treat everyone i tattoo...even my girlfriend as if they had every single virus and such rolled into one. Due to shear population density, a busy tattooist in ny probably tattoos someone with HIV, hep, or something else at least once a week and never knows it. However, your friend, and any tattooist that is to tattoo them, should have a serious talk with the medical care providers that know his condition best. He may be too at risk for infection and such, due to his issues, and doctor may say "really bad idea"
see?...there are good people out there ya just gotta look!
