Guardian symbol--foo dogs

I have color portrait of my kids and want to add a guardian type symbol. I want to go to my artist with some ideas and then let him run with the one he thinks works best I was thinking 1. seahorse-as the male seahorse is the one to take care of the young 2. dragon--mainly just face 3. foo dogs--I believe that they guard a buiding. Would this not "make sense" with the portrait?
