first tattoo

Am thinking of getting my first tattoo probably early next year. I'm in australia, but will be in new york for school later this year. I've pretty much decided upon an artist in new york, Chris O'Donnell as I've read good stuff about him. Am still tossed between tattoo designs and was hoping to get some feedback from everyone. I can't really get a visible tattoo, so am looking to get one on my hip/groin area. I kinda like the idea of a japanese koi or crane, but am not sure if its possible to get one there. Would appreciate any comments. cheers

I really like either of those ideas. Crane is a beautiful symbol. So are Koi. You couldn't lose either way. Both are pretty timeless. Congrats on your decision!! Either way, go very old school Japanese....
