alright, so i'm 16 and looking into tatoos

Alright, tatoos are something that i am just getting into. My father is a tatoo artist in general. My boyfriend told me to wait until i'm 18 just so i'm sure but really I am sure. He has many tatoos and has spent over $1000 on them. I understand they get expensive and what not. But he respects my decision. For the most part i'm mature for my age and maturity has nothing to do with it but it helps a lot. My parents are ok with it as long as it's something meaningful that i won't regret in a few years. Piercings, i've had plenty they can be taken out but this is permanent and i've put a lot of thought into it. I have no doubts on it at all. I just want a little bit of a feedback. I know i'm still considered "young" but to me this is a serious life long decision and something i truely want.

I dont have time to really dig in, but if I had any of the tattoos on their site Id be glad I could laser them off easily...

Phew, all I can say is its a funny test of faith, this dont get tattooed until you are older even though you *really* feel *definitely* ready. If you search the archives its all been said before, and the answer is wait. The question really isnt "can I get a good tattoo if Im underage?" the question is really "When am *I* ready to get a tattoo?" (asked by people of all ages). From what I can tell, there are 2 things you should have before entering the world of artwork that will be on your body until you die or encounter massive trauma. Part of being ready for a good tattoo is to have a depth of knowledge about art, after all, tattooing is an art thats permanent, you should learn about it before committing! Chances are unless you have looked at and studies forms of art for 5-10 years, your ideas are pretty simple and limited. Thats not to say everyone thats under 18 doesnt know what good art is, but if your on that path so young and you keep up with it you will push your understanding and creative mind that much farther. The second part is having a depth of knowledge about yourself, personal history, and philosophy towards the future. This also takes a long time, and as much as youngsters can be mature and know themselves, the next 5-10 years will really bring everything together. If your art mind is fermenting and you are really exploring who you are as a person then I would suggest diving in and learning *everything* you can about art and designing a good tattoo and researching the best artist and saving up the money (cause good tattoos cost $$$) for the next few years. We dont say these things as hypocrites who got tattoos at a young age or out of touch holyier than though elietists, we say these things in part to try to teach "our younger selves" how to get amazing tattoos, not bad or ok ones we need to laser and cover later in life. Basically we have all been there, and done that, now that we are educating you about it the real test is to see if you have the patientce to do it right. If you do you will be emailing us in 4-8 years thanking us, cause tattooing REALLY rewards patience. So, what can you do now, well, who is your favorite artist and who is your favorite tattoo artist?
